Mohammed Hikmet

Mohammed Hikmet founded HMI Technologies with his brother Ahmed in 1999. The business has grown quickly, into one of Asia-Pacific's most innovative intelligent transport systems businesses. Mohammed has strived to ensure the business has developed a solid reputation and all products exceed required standards. A suite of business awards, as well as national and international standards achievements, verifies the company’s commitment to quality and standards.

Mohammed is recognised as a leader by industry peers, appointed as President of Intelligent Transport Systems New Zealand 2015-2017. Nationally, he has been appointed by the Ministry of Transport to the ITS Leadership Group. Internationally, Mohammed sits on the ITS World Congress Board of Directors and ITS Asia Pacific Board of Directors (Chaired the Board 2013-2015). He is also the Head of the New Zealand Delegation to the ISO TC204 international standards committee. 

Co-Founder & CTO - Ahmed Hikmet

Ahmed Hikmet

With a background in IT, electronic engineering, and entrepreneurship Ahmed co-founded HMI Technologies in 1999. Ahmed established HMI Technologies as a leading business sourcing and developing dynamic messaging technology for the New Zealand market.

Ahmed oversaw all the engineering, research and development operations as the business established itself as a regional leader and internationally recognised innovator, with dedicated R&D and world-class manufacturing capacities.



CEO HMI Technologies Group - Stephen Matthews

Stephen Matthews

Stephen Matthews joined HMI Technologies in December 2016 as Chief Executive. Stephen is responsible for the HMI group including its international subsidiaries.

He brings with him a wealth of commercial experience and leadership from the service sector, motor and petroleum industries. Stephen also has vast executive management and governance experience that will help HMI to grow. Stephen has joined HMI at an exciting time for HMI as the company grows and diversifies. As HMI is NZ's leading ITS technology company, Stephen wants to ensure that the company stays at the forefront of this significant transport technology revolution and by adding the first autonomous vehicle trial in New Zealand in January 2017 affirms this commitment.

Stephen has a B Com (Otago) and is a fellow NZIM.

CEO HMI Technologies Australia PTY Ltd - Dean Zabrieszach

Dean Zabrieszach

Dean Zabrieszach manages all HMI Technologies’ activities in Australia. Prior to joining HMI Technologies in 2015 Dean held several senior roles at VicRoads, the Victorian State Government’s Road Authority, including Manager Intelligent Transport Systems, Director Road User Services and most recently, Director Road Operations.

Dean is Vice President of ITS Australia and member of the ITS Asia Pacific Board, he was also Project Director for the highly successful ITS World Congress hosted by ITS Australia in Melbourne in 2016.  Dean holds a BE (Civil) from University of Melbourne.


Director of AV Initiatives Australasia - Dave Verma

Appointed in January 2017 as the Director of Autonomous Vehicle Initiatives for HMI Technologies Ltd, Dave Verma is an internationally acknowledged technical expert on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) systems. Dave has considerable experience in general management and direction for transport projects involving complex, high value, state-level ITS, security and enforcement systems in Malaysia and the Middle East.

Dave has both hard technical and relationship management acumen from a background in the deployment of disruptive transportation technology, systems design, procurement, and delivery combined with high-level stakeholder management skills. He holds an Executive MBA from Hult International Business School.

Director for Europe - Richard Harris

Richard Harris HMI Director for Europe

Richard is internationally recognized as a leading expert in ITS. His experience spans more than 30 years with senior positions in companies and industry associations as well as major contracts including game-changing European Commission projects. He was inducted into the ITS Hall of Fame in 2015 as the recipient of a lifetime achievement award.

Richard is a specialist in transport-related end-user services, route guidance systems, in-vehicle and cooperative systems, information presentation, construction and maintenance of large-scale information databases and data collection. He has a broad range of practical experience including achieving policy and business outcomes of traffic management and information systems, public transport services, enforcement and traveller behaviour, freight and logistics including secure truck parking, and demand management measures including road pricing and payment systems. Richard is also a leading advocate for Mobility as a Service.

Chief Engineering and Research Officer - Hartmut Beintken

Hartmut Beintken

Hartmut is responsible for HMI’s worldwide engineering activities. He started with HMI in March 2012 as R&D manager. He has been involved in the development and deployment of HMI ITS products like the AraFlow-System and RouteTip. He has also been instrumental in developing the technical basis for HMI’s expansion into the Australian market.

Qualified as an Electrical and Electronic Engineer Hartmut has a background in semiconductors working in Germany and the US for Siemens, Infineon and Micronas. He has also been involved in certification activities related to nuclear power plants.


 Chief Financial Officer - Dharshika Fonseka

Dharshika Fonseka

Dharshika Fonseka is responsible for management of all Finance, HR and General Administration activities within the HMI Group. She joined HMI Technologies in 2010 and brings a wealth of experience having previously worked in numerous organizations within the financial sector. Her role extends to maintain the highest level of quality and ecosystems within the company.

Dharshika holds an MBA from Auckland University of Technology and is an Associate Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA-UK) as well as being a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
